James Jacobs, principal of Indian Trail Intermediate School, has been selected as the Tennessee PTA Outstanding Principal for 2017.
Dr. Richard Bales, Superintendent of Schools, has been selected as the Tennessee PTA Outstanding Superintendent for 2017.

Nancy Miles2Three educators received the school district’s highest honor by being named 2017 Teachers of the Year.  Nancy Miles, David Nutter, and Glenda Conner were chosen from twenty nominees.

Nancy Miles, third-grade teacher at South Side Elementary, was the elementary winner.  Miles has seventeen years of teaching experience. “What an honor it is to represent a group of dedicated, hard-working educators,” said Miles.  “All teachers need to be celebrated for the way in which they change students’ lives.”

David Nutter, in his eleventh year of teaching, was selected as the middle-David Nutter2grades winner.  Nutter teaches health sciences at Indian Trail Intermediate.  “I am truly honored to be selected for this award,” said Nutter.  “I believe that students should take ownership of their learning and lives.”

Science Hill High School recipient, Glenda Conner, has eighteen Glenda Conner 2years of teaching experience in mathematics.  “I am honored and humbled to be selected for this award,” said Conner.  “To be nominated by my fellow colleagues, who model such high standards and strive for excellence in the classroom, makes this award so much more meaningful.”

“This honor is well-deserved by all three educators,” said Dr. Richard Bales, Superintendent of Schools.  “They have established a unique educational environment for students to learn and grow each and every day.”

The three winners advance to regional competition. Tennessee’s “Teacher of the Year” will be named in October.
