The Johnson City Public Schools Foundation was chartered in 1989 to enrich public education in Johnson City. The independent, community-based foundation was established specifically to fund innovative programs and activities not provided in the system’s operating budget to enhance learning experiences for students and teachers in the Johnson City School System.

As a non-profit organization, the Johnson City Public Schools Foundation works in partnership with the school system, to provide funds for teacher grants as well as manage donations for student’s scholarships.

Fall 2017 Mini-Grant Applications Now Available

The Johnson City Schools Foundation is funding another round of grants for teachers. This grant is the perfect way for you to get that new idea or project funded for the Fall 2017 semester. Below are the grant form and rubric which will be used to rate each grant application. All grants need to be submitted by Friday, September 1, 2017..

Student Scholarships 

The Johnson City Public Schools Foundation receives donations that fund several memorial and honorary scholarships awarded each spring to outstanding seniors at Science Hill High School. These include:

  • Amanda Minutolo Scholarship
  • Morgan Cox Scholarship
  • Slagle Scholarship
  • Mildred Perryman West Scholarship

Science Hill seniors should contact guidance counselors for more information about these scholarships.

Teacher Mini-Grants

The purpose of Teacher Mini-Grants is to promote quality teaching and enhanced learning in Johnson City Schools. These grants reward educators for developing innovative program ideas, based on best practices, with a goal of providing our students with a quality education.

Guidelines:

  • Any teacher employed in Johnson City Schools may apply for a grant.
  • Priority will be given to grant requests that cover core curriculum materials that will be used by and for students.
  • Items purchased with grant money should be used year after year (non-consummables).
  • Each grant must have a title and a detailed budget must be provided.
  • Grants may be applied for up to $1,000. Teachers will be limited to one awarded grant per school year.
  • Approval is required from your school principal.

Best Card! Fundraiser

The Foundation conducts one fundraiser each year. BEST! Cards contain discounts and incentives offered by area businesses, and are sold by students during the fall of the year. Partnering with school PTA’s, the proceeds from BEST Card sales are split between each school’s PTA and the Foundation. Selling for only $5.00, BEST! Cards provide funds for school programs and grants while offering substantial savings to card holders.

(Dr. Jack Campbell, President of Walters State Community College, Morristown, Tennessee for 31 years retired in 2005. In 1986, Dr. Campbell was designated as one of the most effective college presidents in the nation based on a research study funded by the Exxon Education Foundation. He recently received Outstanding Alumni Award at ETSU.)

(Navy Captain John D. Exum presently resides in Virginia Beach,VA. He  was the commanding officer of three warships, one of which was the USS NOA (DD841) that recovered Colonel John Glenn's historic Friendship Seven space capsule in Feb., 1962.)

(Steve Spurrier, a Heisman Trophy winner, was head football coach at the Univ. of FL, at Duke Univ., the Tampa Bay Bandits of the USFL and Wash.Redskins NFL professional football team. He is currently head football coach at the Univ.of South Carolina.)

(Wyck Godfrey is president of Davis Entertainment, a Hollywood movie company that produces many of today's chart - topping films. He has produced six major motion pictures. As a producer, Godfrey oversees the entire development of the film including casting, scripting, editing, marketing and determining the release date.)
